Appointment Guidelines:
I specialize in making top quality professional and intermediate oboes perform to their absolute highest potential.
I welcome oboes made by Loree, Marigaux, Howarth, Rigoutat, Buffet and other professional makers. I also gladly service intermediate models made by these companies, including Cabart, Riec, and Delphine. I prefer not to work on instruments older than thirty or forty years. WHY?
There are many other fine oboes not listed above that I would love to repair: If you have a question about an instrument not listed above, please contact me through the form at the bottom of this page.
CLARINETS:
We are pleased to introduce our new clarinet technician Logan Lambert. She will be taking over all the clarinet work going forward. You can book an appointment through her online calendar on the RDG website, by phone at (323) 463-4930 extension 7 or by emailing to: Logan@rdgwoodwinds.com
Often it is convenient to bring more than one instrument at a time. Please make a separate appointment for each instrument. Depending on the work needed, I may not be able to finish them all in a single day. Let me know in the comments if they must be done the same day, and I will try to accommodate you as best I can.
The different types of appointments and pricing are described below. I am often asked the difference between the “full annual service” and the “minor annual service.” In short, the “full annual” is much more thorough. The instrument is completely disassembled and everything is systematically checked. My goal with this job is an instrument that plays as well as possible, with perfectly smooth, quiet action and superb response. For a “minor annual service” the oboe is not disassembled: Instead I spot check and correct problems such as leaking pads and missing corks. My goal is an instrument that plays well, but time and economy are prioritized rather than perfectly smooth, quiet action and effortless response.
If your instrument has not been serviced for a few years, the “full annual service” is required. I recommend the “minor annual service” only for instruments that have previously had the “full annual” and then been regularly maintained in the following years.
